Trudy Broadley, AFCA

Trudy Broadley was raised in England and moved to Canada with her young family in 1974. Her mother, a clothing designer and tailor, instilled in her an eye for color, design, and pattern-making. Trudy has always enjoyed art and has been painting full-time since 2004. She studied Art and Culture through Emily Carr University’s Continuing Studies program and gained additional knowledge from the educational programs of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA). Trudy is a member of both the Nanaimo and Arrowsmith Chapters of the Federation and belongs to many local groups, including the Arts Council of Nanaimo and Ladysmith.

Her work has been exhibited at the FCA Granville Island Gallery and in various FCA Fine Art Shows on Vancouver Island. Trudy’s paintings are displayed in homes and businesses across Canada, France, and the United Kingdom. She has received awards for her work and has been featured several times in Art Avenue Magazine.

Trudy is also dedicated to supporting the arts. Her volunteer efforts have included set design and painting for the Gabriola Players Theatre Group. She is a past president of the FCA Nanaimo Chapter.

Painting in oils is Trudy’s preferred medium. Her work is deeply rooted in nature, often featuring close-ups of botanicals and wildlife. She also enjoys painting architecture. Her style has been described as a blend of realism and impressionism, with a strong emphasis on shapes and color.

Trudy lives in Lantzville, Vancouver Island, with her husband Bruce and their dog, Charlie.
